Understanding far-right extremism is one thing. Knowing how to respond to it in your own practice is another — and it is where many professionals feel least confident.

This second session moves from analysis to action. Building on the foundations laid in Part 1, it focuses on practical strategies for identifying, challenging and countering extremist narratives in professional settings, and on doing so in a way that opens conversation rather than closing it down.

Through interactive discussion and real-world case studies, participants will explore how to respond when extremist views surface in a classroom, a caseload, a youth setting or a community space. The session examines early intervention techniques, the difficult conversations practitioners often avoid, and the multi-agency approaches that make prevention work in practice.

Attention is also given to professional confidence and boundaries: when to challenge, when to listen, when to escalate, and how to safeguard individuals at risk of extremist influence without alienating them.

Ideal for:

  • Youth justice professionals and social workers
  • Police officers and law enforcement professionals
  • Educators and safeguarding leads
  • Community engagement officers and counter-extremism professionals
  • Policy advisors and government officials

Key Takeaways:

  • Identifying practical ways to challenge extremist rhetoric and misinformation
  • Developing strategies for early intervention before views become entrenched
  • Building confidence to hold difficult conversations without escalation or avoidance
  • Understanding multi-agency collaboration and when to escalate a concern
  • Applying practical tools for disrupting recruitment pathways and radicalisation processes

Additional Benefits:

  • Learn approaches for safeguarding individuals from extremist influence
  • Access expert guidance on best practice in prevention and intervention
  • Test your responses against realistic scenarios with practitioners from other sectors
  • Leave with strategies you can apply immediately in your own setting

This session is essential for professionals who want to move beyond awareness to effective response, ensuring safer communities and more confident, capable prevention practice.

Note: Part 2 builds on the content covered in Part 1. Attending both sessions is strongly recommended.
